No. 197: Summer clips: Mary Reid Kelley

Episode No. 197 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast features artist Mary Reid Kelley. It was recorded in July, 2013.

Reid Kelley is a who mixes lyrical, often bitingly funny poetry with drawing with video. She came onto The MAN Podcast on the occasion of an exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, which was showing a mini-exhibition of four Reid Kelleys.

Now the Hammer Museum is featuring Reid Kelley’s work in a Hammer Projects exhibition. The show features three works that look into the Greek Myth of the Minotaur, a hybrid creature that is part bull and, in Reid Kelley’s telling, part woman. First up is 2013’s Priapus Agonistes, then the next year’s Swinburne’s Pasiphae and finally The Thong of Dionysus, which Reid Kelley finished this year and is debuting at the Hammer. The exhibition was organized by Emily Gonzalez-Jarrett and will be on view through September 27.

Air date: August 13, 2015.
