Episode No. 90 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast features artists Mary Reid Kelley and Camille Utterback.
The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston opens an exhibition of four Reid Kelleys on Wednesday, July 31. Organized by Jenelle Porter, the exhibition will be on view through October 27.
Reid Kelley’s work mixes drawing with poetry with video. Her work has been shown at the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Yale University Art Gallery, the ICA Philadelphia and at the Rochester Art Center. In early 2014 the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art (at SUNY New Paltz) and University Art Museum at SUNY Albany will present “Mary Reid Kelley: Working Objects and Videos.”
Among the videos discussed on the program are The Syphilis of Sisyphus (2011) and Sadie the Saddest Sadist (2009).
On the second segment, Camille Utterback joins me to discuss her participation in the Orange County Museum of Art’s 2013 California-Pacific Triennial. The exhibition, curated by OCMA’s Dan Cameron, includes Utterback’s Untitled 5. In 2009 Utterback was the recipient of a MacArthur ‘genius’ fellowship. Her solo shows include exhibitions at MASS MoCA and the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia.
Air date: July 25, 2013.
