Episode No. 43 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast features artist Ori Gersht and conservator Yvonne Szafran.
Gersht’s first mid-career survey just opened at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He has spent the last 15 years exploring the territory in which violence and beauty overlap, often with a special focus on how a landscape can bear witness. He has explored these ideas in photography and most recently in art-history-referencing video works. The MFAB exhibition was curated by Al Miner and is titled, “Ori Gersht: History Repeating.” It will be on view through Jan. 6, 2013.
On the second segment, The MAN Podcast introduces what will become a regular feature over the next year or so: Jackson Pollock’s landmark 1943 painting Mural is in the collection of the University of Iowa Museum of Art, but for the rest of 2012 and in 2013 it will be at the Getty for conservation treatment.
As long as Mural is at the Getty, The MAN Podcast will be checking in with the conservators working on it to hear about what they’re doing and what they’re learning about the painting. The first guest in that series will be Yvonne Szafran, the conservator of paintings at the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Air date: Aug. 30, 2012.
