Episode No. 776 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast features artist Mark Thomas Gibson and curator Ben Colman.

The Tang Museum at Skidmore College is presenting “Mark Thomas Gibson: We Are a Constellation,” a survey of Gibson’s recent considerations of US history and the relationship between our past and our present. The exhibition was curated by Ian Berry in collaboration with the artist and is on view through January 3, 2027.

Gibson’s work is also featured in  “The Crossing: Picturing the American Revolution” at the Michener Art Museum, Doylestown, Penn. “The Crossing” looks at how artists have represented Continental Army commander-in-chief George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas night, 1776. “The Crossing” is particularly interested in how artists have built on and often ‘refuted’ Emanuel Leutze’s famed 1851 Washington Crossing the Delaware, which is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The exhibition, which was curated by Laura Igoe, is up through January 10, 2027.

An exhibition of Gibson’s recent work opens at Philadelphia’s Fleisher/Ollman Gallery tomorrow, and remains on view through November 7.

Among the institutions that have presented solo shows of Gibson’s work are the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Library Company of Philadelphia, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.

Colman is the curator of “Georgia O’Keeffe: Architecture” at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Across about 35 paintings, the exhibition examines O’Keeffe’s career-long interest in buildings and the built environment. It’s on view through January 3, 2007.
