On the second segment of this week’s Modern Art Notes Podcast, Time magazine art critic Richard Lacayo joins me to discuss his forthcoming Clarice Smith Distinguished Lecture in American Art. Titled "Hurry Up Please, It’s Time: Artists in Their Later Years," Lacayo’s lecture will consider the late work of Titian, Henri Matisse and Edward Hopper. Lacayo will give the lecture at the Smithsonian American Art Museum on tomorrow, October 30 at 7pm. It will be streamed live and then archived on the museum’s website. Here’s the page on which you may watch it live.
Throughout the day MANPodcast.com will feature artworks that Titian, Matisse and Hopper made after turning 70.
This is Hopper’s A Woman in the Sun (1961) at the Whitney Museum of American Art, made for when the artist 79.
