On the second segment of this week’s Modern Art Notes Podcast, Whitney Museum of American Art curator Dana Miller talks about her new exhibition: the first major retrospective of Jay DeFeo. The exhibition is on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art through February 3, 2013.

DeFeo is best known for her massive painting The Rose, but she made significant work both before and after The Rose. This is a detail from one of her early exuberant abstractions, The Veronica (from SFMOMA’s collection).
