This week’s Modern Art Notes Podcast features Carrie Mae Weems. A new retrospective exhibition of Weems’s work titled, “Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video,” opened last week at Nashville’s Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Weems also has a very good website. It’s full of her work, links and more. Don’t miss it.
One of the topics Weems and I discussed is how she addresses racial stereotypes in her work and in particular how she learned about racial stereotypes even though her hometown of Portland, Ore., wasn’t as rife with them as were other parts of the country.
